Sam Taylor-Johnson's photographic `Chanel` exhibition

Before I entered the Saatchi Gallery, to view Sam Taylor-Johnson's photographic exhibition  'Second Floor - The Private Apartment Of Mademoiselle Chanel`, I expected it to have a very particular sensibility. And I was right - the photographs were sophisticated yet full of quirkiness. I am wearing a dress by Manoush, scarf from Missoni, handbag by Gucci and shoes from Vivienne Westwood for Melissa.

Sam Taylor-Johnson captured the private rooms of Mademoiselle Chanel at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris, at the end of the day, when the daylight was fading, creating this intimate world of the luxurious living, full of valued talismans, and rock-crystal chandeliers.
Turning the camera onto treasured possessions, Taylor-Johnson brought out the patterns, colours, animals and architectural details like this mirrored staircase leading up to the apartment, that are synonymous with Mademoiselle Chanel.
I particularly like this image of a gilded lion that represents Chanel`s star sign – Leo.
The photographs paint an informed portrait of a very stylish and very lonely woman.

The apartment was an ideal stage for the drama of Chanel`s life.
